CAMSAHT hosted the first ever Northern BC Human Trafficking Symposium last month
On March 3rd, 2019, Prince George healthcare workers welcomed the city’s first-ever Northern BC Human Trafficking Symposium.
This event, organized by Kirsten Roche, UBC's representative for CAMSAHT, brought together over 50 workers and students from across disciplines such as Medicine, Nursing and Social Work, for an afternoon at University Hospital of Northern BC to learn about what human trafficking is, the contexts in which it occurs in this part of the country, how to recognize a potential trafficking situation in a healthcare setting, and how to respond.
Speakers included a local expert on the topic, a nurse who works with trafficking victims, and a trafficking survivor. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive and future symposiums are in the works for BC!
