Our Vision

The Canadian Alliance of Medical Students Against Human Trafficking (CAMSAHT) was founded in 2016 to address the lack of human trafficking education in healthcare. Victims of human trafficking come into contact with healthcare providers, yet Canadian physicians are poorly trained to identify, screen, and treat potential victims.

We at CAMSAHT are working to address this missed opportunity for intervention by educating healthcare providers at various levels of training, through curriculum development, research, and advocacy. CAMSAHT believes that Canada’s National Action Plan to Combat Human Trafficking must involve the education of healthcare providers. We believe in a future where Canadian healthcare professionals have an evidence-based approach to screening, supporting, and treating potential victims of trafficking using trauma-informed practices.

CAMSAHT is a sex-work positive organization that believes in intersectional feminism and supports both the LGBTQ+ and Indigenous communities. As an organization, we recognize that the profile of human trafficking within Canada requires a diverse approach with input from researchers, healthcare professionals, advocacy groups, and victims.

Most Canadians do not know

what human trafficking looks like. If we do not know what to look for, we can not respond to or prevent it from happening. At CAMSAHT, we are dedicated to working with future physicians, healthcare workers, and the public to increase awareness and create change.”
