B.C. "Know the Signs" Campaign Aims to Educate Teens & Youth About Human Trafficking

While youth and teens represent the age group at the highest risk of being trafficked, very few resources exist that are specifically aimed toward this demographic. The UBC Chapter of CAMSAHT jumped at the opportunity to address this gap and created the “Know the Signs” campaign. Over the final months of 2020, the team dedicated their efforts to building a website designed to teach teenagers to recognize the signs of grooming and human trafficking, so they can keep themselves and their friends safe. Poster and social media campaigns were started to direct youth to the website. January 23rd, 2021 was the culmination of it all, with the website completed, the campaign released on both Facebook and Instagram, and the posters being distributed in cities around B.C.! Check out their work on https://www.knowthesignsofhumantrafficking.com/ and on Instagram (@ubc.camsaht).

“It has been so much fun to be a part of this campaign! From members of CAMSAHT; to medical students around the province stepping up to help distribute posters and share on social media; to the community organizations hanging our posters in their centres; we have been met with such enthusiasm from all participants. We look forward to seeing what happens next!” (Kirsten Roche, UBC)
